Shot down off the coast of Germany, Pohe was held prisoner at Stalag Luft III, near Sagan in present-day Poland. Digging a tunnel under the camp, Pohe was one of the prisoners who escaped in a mass breakout which was immortalised in the film The Great Escape.

Julian Arahanga is a film maker and actor having starred in 1994's Once Were Warriors, followed by a starring role in the cross-cultural romance Broken English. Since then Julian has had a prolific career working both in front of and behind the camera, including producing a short documentary in 2008 on the escapades of John Pohe titled 'Turangaarere: The John Pohe Story'. Andrew Burdan is a freelance illustrator who has illustrated a number of books and children's books and contributed illustrations to school magazines.
