This book gives basic information and sound advice to parents. It is a controversil area, often passionately debated from different points of view in medicine, psychology and education. Meantime, many school children are experiencing severe difficulties in trying to master the written word or basic number concepts, in spite of good evidence of their general ability. They and their parents deserve the constructive approach of this book. Peter Dowrick was educated in New Zealand and supported SPELD New Zealand and the Dyslexic Society in Britain before moving to the USA where he is now Professor of Disability Studies and Graduate Studies in Psychology at the University of Hawai'i.
