This is a frank and honest account of a man burying his son, his parents, lovers and wives. The essay explores conversations and rituals and the sometimes uneasy behaviour around the deaths of those people who have been close. Lindsay Rabbitt reminds us that we can if we wish dispose of our own lives (as in life styles with destructive impulses). This essay is far from a bleak survey. Throughout the account insists on absolute honesty. It also bubbles with sly humour as it moves towards its triumphant end note.
