Kennedy was New Zealand Geographic's founding editor in 1988. In the sixteen years that followed he established a reputation for rigorous editorial standards, high picture quality and a never-ending series of fascinating subjects. The high-profile Warne stepped down as editor in 2004 to pursue a freelance career. His work still appears in the magazine's pages. He now works for a range of magazines that includes National Geographic and The Smithsonian in the US and Canadian Geographic in Canada. He has an international reputation.
