A LIFE IN TWO LANDS: The autobiography of a surgeon/forensic pathologist

The author describes his early life in his country of birth, Sri Lanka, where he had his school and university education, culminating in his qualifying as a doctor in 1969. He commenced training in surgery , passing the primary examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He describes his ethnic background (Ceylon Burgher) and the origins of the racial and ethnic discrimination that resulted in his emigration to New Zealand shortly after his marriage. Surgical training was completed, qualifying as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1974. Stymied in his ambition to specialise in cancer treatment, he then turned to pathology, qualifying as a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1980. He then specialised in Forensic pathology. The book describes this journey and contains many cases he dealt with in both surgery and forensic pathology. He retired in 2010.
