Description

Lambert Hampton is the man the small, drought-ravaged country town of Munni-Munni turn to when they uncover $3 million stolen from bookies by ruthless bandits and buried seemingly in the middle of nowhere. A former bank manager, Lambert uses the money and his considerable entrepreneurial skills to rescue the town and set it on a viable, economic footing. The day of reckoning comes when the criminals are released from gaol. The crims want the money. The cops want the money. A rogue insurance investigator wants the money. And so do Australia's two most notorious hit men. In trying to save his town and all he has achieved, Lambert is forced to risk everything - his life, the lives of the town folk, his own daughter, ten thousand barramundi and a really lovable Jack Russell.

Author description

Derek Hansen was born in London in June 1944 and at the age of four he convinced his parents to emigrate to Auckland, where he lived for the next sixteen years. His writing talent took him to London in the sixties where his quirky style and commercial instincts brought a rapid rise through the ranks to the country s top advertising agency. Derek was lured to Australia and spent the next twenty-five years doing ads and wishing he was writing novels instead. One day over lunch Derek had the bright idea of breaking his fiction manuscript down into bite-sized pieces and so the idea for the Lunch series was born. Lunch with the Generals became an instant bestseller in Australasia and was sold into Britain, Scandinavia, France and Germany. His later novel, Sole Survivor, was also a bestseller and has reprinted many times. Derek has written a further five novels and three collections of short stories, and now A Man You Can Bank On. He is married, has two grown-up children and lives most of the time in Avalon on Pittwater, and some of the time in Doonan on Queensland s Sunshine Coast. On the whole, the fishing is better in Pittwater.
