Description

This publication presents and illustrates diverse fashions, including shoes, hats, jewellery, undergarments, and outerwear. Each fashion is intended for visual presentation on a two-page spread. Information comes from research, museums, and history of costume books. The book is written in a format that is concise and engaging, as well as educational. The book explains the environmental influences that shape fashion. Readers will learn that fashion is a reflection of the way of life at a given time, rather than an arbitrary and unpredictable force. This nonfiction, illustrated costume history book examines extreme fashions throughout the world. It discusses some of the most restrictive and inconvenient fashions and some of the most liberating and functional fashions. It includes interesting fashion theories, perspectives, and facts. Fashions are described and explained in light of the social, political, economic, and cultural considerations (Zeitgeist) of the time.
