Description

'The fox called again. Its eerie cry echoed into the night. The sound wove in and out of the night garden, and into Tilly's dreams.' One night, awoken by a strange noise, Tilly looks out of her bedroom window and sees a wild fox watching her from the lawn. Tilly follows it through a hidden gate and is amazed to discover a secret, moonlit garden. She returns the following night but this time a young girl called Helen is already there waiting for her. Tilly is delighted to have found a new friend, but is Helen real or is she a ghost?

Reviews

Julia Green is a writer to watch. David Almond There is just something about Green's writing that makes you completely fall in love with her books. The Sweet Bonjour Praise for Drawing with Light: iDrawing with Lightr is one of the best books that I have read about growing up and experiencing love and relationships for the first time ... It was one of those books I didn't want to end and I hope that Julia Green writes many more in the future. Scribbles I didn't think she could top her last novel, Breathing Underwater, but she has. I for one can't wait to see what she writes next. Wondrous Reads A great novel. I have already ordered Breathing Underwater and can't wait to read it. I Want to Read That A touching and tender teenage novel of love and exploration. Julia Eccleshare, Love Reading 4 Kids Everything is beautifully observed and each reference - music, film - is perfectly chosen, chiming perfectly with what's going on. The result is an utterly absorbing novel in which the reader feels completely immersed in the central character. My heart swelled for Emily, edging her way towards maturity. Lovely stuff, and it's highly recommended. The Bookbag This is a sensitive and assured novel about the time in young people's lives when they start to crave a sense of identity, and need straight answers to big questions about who they are, and the real reasons adults behave as they do. Books for Keeps A tender novel that explores the changing nature of the parent child relationship through adolescence. A depth of emotional charge sears through this quietly understated story. Blood relationships and new family bonds are played against one another, but it is the minutiae of life so deftly observed that truly makes this novel shine. Jake Hope, Boopkseller A complex slice of family life brought richly into focus by Emily, whose quest to find her birth mother is just one plot strand in this excellent book. Thoughtful and lyrical, this is a great read for teenage girls who prefer real life over vampires! Marilyn Brocklehurst, Bookseller Julia Green's iDrawing with Lightr struck me for its readability - you really want to know what's going to happen. Introducing the theme of the absent mother she sends her heroine on a quest to find out why her mother left her as a young child, giving us a perspective from both mother and daughter, quite beautifully done. The School Librarian Praise for Breathing Underwater: Breathing Underwater is both thought-provoking and reassuring, and it comes very much recommended by me. The Bookbag Praise for Baby Blue: Written with great tenderness and sensitivity. The Bookseller Wonderful writing, strong characters and a powerful and engaging topic: what it is really like to cope with a baby at 16. Publishing News
