Criticism and Truth is a brilliant discussion of the language of literary criticism and a key work in the Barthes canon.
Author description
Roland Barthes (1915-1980) was a major French writer, literary theorist and critic of French culture and society. He opposed the conventions of the bourgeois establishment and attacked prevailing attitudes to language and literature, arguing that ideas and standards accepted as 'neutral' and 'natural' were in fact nothing of the kind. His books include Mythologies and Camera Lucida.
