Author(s): Academy of American Poets
The Academy of American Poets has curated an anthology of poetry based on their popular Poem-a-Day program--a prominent feature on poets.org with tens of thousands of email subscribers. Loosely organised according to the flow and themes of the seasons, this collection is designed to encourage the daily practice of reading poetry. Wherever possible, classic and contemporary poems on a similar theme are juxtaposed, suggesting a "conversation" between two works. Since poetry is sought out for speeches and toasts, the book also includes an index of poems by occasion (marriage, holidays, mourning, luck), which the Academy has curated according to the most frequently searched occasions on their site.
Founded in 1934, the Academy of American Poets is the largest membership-based nonprofit organisation fostering an appreciation for contemporary poetry and supporting American poets. For over three generations, the Academy has connected millions of people to great poetry through programs such as National Poetry Month, the largest literary celebration in the world; Poets.org, the Academy's popular website; American Poets, a biannual literary journal; and an annual series of poetry readings and special events.
